The problem is that you don't really know which is which until you test them.
After several years of running ads on Facebook/Meta, we've kind of developed a "nose" to know what will work and what won't…
But that doesn't prevent us from having to test all the time.
For example, with Dan Henry a couple of years ago we had a creative idea that I thought would do really well for one of his funnels…
It was funny, creative and catchy. No way this could fail…
We filmed, edited, launched, and spent money on it... aaaaand it flopped.
At the same time, I tested this picture of him holding an art piece he's just bought... and that one ad went to make millions of dollars.
Most of the ads that you launch are going to be Type One (Bad Ads).
I'd say close to 80%.
If you launch 10 ads, only 1 or 2 will work well, so they'll become Type Two (Good Ads).
These are the ads that perform within your metrics and allow you to spend more. You always want to have Type Two Ads "in the chamber", ready to go.
Good ads have a "shelf life". They'll work for a while, and then they'll slowly go down in performance.
This is normal. There's nothing wrong with your campaigns. It's just the way it is.
Sometimes, however, you'll come across Type Three ads (Golden Ads), which are the ones you can run for a long time.
Sometimes months, sometimes even years!
We have this one client that the same video crushes for him. We just make small tweaks to this Golden Ad, and it's a multi-million dollar ad.
BUT these ads are even rarer. Maybe 1% of all the ads we launch.
Here's why I'm telling you this:
If you really want to win at this Meta Ad game... and you want to scale BIG.
You need to have a system to always be launching and testing creatives.
At some point, your targeting will become easier and easier, but that's where the real game starts.
Don't get lazy on this.
It's the key to scale.
This is also what separates amateurs from pros.
Building a machine to always be testing new creatives, especially as you scale, is the missing piece of the puzzle.
Hope this helps!"
