Hey Funnel Hacker, Do you have work-life balance? So much personal development talks about the importance of reducing stress and living a 'balanced life'. In fact, I checked it out on Google Trends – the number of people searching 'work-life balance' has DOUBLED compared to 2021 when we were in the pandemic. I'm guessing it's an issue for a lot of you. And… it got me thinking about a podcast I recorded in my car back in 2014 during a period a huge instability in my life. What I said will really help you navigate work-life balance as an entrepreneur. For those who don't know. We had just launched ClickFunnels in 2014 and I made this podcast while driving to work for a late-night session. I think I even said something like we were 'killing ourselves' to make it a success. And at the same time I was trying to do so many things like be a dad, take my kids to football, take my daughter to soccer, be a good husband, meet church responsibilities and so on. So I came to this conclusion. Maybe I have to cut sleep out from my schedule? Just kidding! It was Mark Cuban actually who said in a SharkTank episode I'd seen something like 'while my competitors sleep I'm up at night kicking ass'. And we really believed in that back then. I mean, ClickFunnels was up against people with VC money who were sleeping easy at night knowing they had the funding coming... but we were busting our butts because we had no one's capital to invest. So I came up with this quote. "Greatness comes during periods of radical imbalance." A balanced life is obviously the only sustainable solution to maintaining your health and your family stability and your commitments. But what do you do when you have to sacrifice things to build a business? That's where this quote comes in. Back in 2014 I had a talk with my wife and we talked about all the things I had to cut out from my life to focus on my business. Here's a couple things you could consider: - Cut down on your gym time or weight training goals
- Bring forward your alarm clock and sleeping hours
- Cut down on your time relaxing or watching TV in the evenings
- Reduce your number of social events
- Pause other business commitments that aren't taking you towards your business goals
I'm not saying you should do this long-term. But... there comes a time as an entrepreneur when you have to lead an unbalanced life for a while Once you hit the goal, you can get back to your balanced life. I know I tell you a lot of things in these emails where you probably thinking, "Russell, this sounds amazing, but I really don't have the bandwidth right now." But if building your business could provide the financial stability you need, the success you're wanting, or the change of career you're desperate for… then you're gonna need to make that bandwidth. I want you to know that I have never built anything great without going a little crazy. Just remember… "Greatness comes during periods of radical imbalance."
